bryce canyon fun fact :

Bristlecone pine trees litter the landscape throughout Bryce Canyon. Dating back 1,700 years, they are the oldest living things in the world!

hiking peek-a-boo trail | bryce canyon national park

Peek-a-Boo Loop is a strenuous trail but worth every bead of sweat! Perhaps hiking 5 miles with lulu strapped on my back didn't help matters but absolutely breathtaking nonetheless! Often times I'd find myself stopping mid-trail smiling from ear to ear completely taken aback and astonished by the beauty. Millions of years of wind, water and geologic mayhem have shaped and etched the pink cliffs at Bryce, which isn't actually a canyon but the eastern slope of the Paunsaguant Plateau!

PEEK-A-BOO LOOP is accessible from Bryce Point. You hike one mile down from BP to the the 3 mile loop, then back one mile to Bryce Point. The mile down is a cake walk, while that last mile back up hill feels like 5! CLICK HERE FOR PHOTO TOUR!! :)

bryce canyon on horseback!

While the view from the rim is spectacular, you must take a hike or horseback ride through the canyon, to the canyon floor, to get the ultimate view. Viewing the canyon from within dramatically changes your perspective. The brilliantly colored hoodoos, spires and amphitheater landscape takes on a whole new meaning. I chose to do the 2 hour horseback ride, knowing I'd be hiking as well. If you're not up for a hike, then opt for the 3 hr/half day ride as it's the best and only way to see the sites up close. You'll thank me! Promise!

Judge isn't sure which way to go so he's reading directions!

bryce canyon = pie canyon

This is where I had my three day pie trifecta. You can't miss the place on your way to the park. I stayed at the Bryce Canyon Pines Campground (practically) across the street. Very convenient! Btw: I rarely eat out, for two reasons: it gets expensive and I eat way healthier shopping and cooking for myself. BUT after a 5 mile hike with lulu strapped to my back and the cold winds settling in, I broke down and ordered the hot turkey smothered in gravy with cranberry sauce. OMG YUM. HEAVEN. I highly recommend it! Happy Thanksgiving!! :)

this makes me laugh...

This is one way to save money on a tower! Just paint the roof so planes can see the airport -- ingenious! lol

best friends animal sanctuary!

Volunteering at the Best Friend's Animal Sanctuary today! At a sprawling 3,700 acres, BFAS is the largest no kill animal sanctuary in the US (maybe even the world, gotta check that)!! Home to everything from pot belly pigs, horses, bunnies, birds, dogs, cats, etc... This place is truly amazing! I stumbled upon it on my way up to Bryce on Thurs so I stopped and did a tour. I was so impressed, I'm back to volunteer today, before headingn to Zion!

I'll be with the bunnies all day in the Rabbit House! Horses and pigs are under quarantine right now -- equine virus.

I'll update with more info and pics soon! :)Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

cloudy = no star gazing = eat more pie

Had an absurdly stupendous day horseback riding and hiking through the canyon! Took some amazing pics! Hundreds actually. It's gonna take me days to go through them. Had planned on doing the Night Ranger lead star gazing tonight but clouds rolled in, so I decided to eat more PIE!

Last night was a beautiful night, so I did some "Diana" lead star gazing of my own. While I'm certain the ranger lead telescope gazing is surreal, the night sky in Bryce is magical, even to the lonely naked, untrained eye.

Bryce is a uniquely special place -- and you can get really good pie. :)Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
