keystone night skiing + alpenglow stube

2010-2011 ski season was just one big blizzard in CO. Breck doesn't offer night skiing, so the real die hards would ride all day in Breck then finish the day under the lights in Keystone! I've done the back to back riding but with a nice lengthy break in between. Keystone also has fantastic snow tubing under lights and not for the faint of heart! It was soooo fast and crazy awesome. Alpenglow Stube is a beautiful restaurant sittting right on top of the mountain. There's a fabulous fondue restaurant too -- a little more casual but just as awesome!

8 months on the road!

It's hard to believe it's been eight months since I departed! I let my heart guide me with no plan and no particular destination, from the priceless moments doing yoga on the shores of Lake McDonald and touring Yellowstone with my father to the terrifying moment of fighting off an attacker in Steamboat Springs, Co., and a life-threatening illness in Denver, Colorado.
While I cherish every moment and memory that has shaped this surreal journey, tears of joy and fear have shaped this all too real adventure. Despite some challenges, I have been reborn into a life I have always imagined. I am profoundly thankful and content.

I will spend the winter giving you a storybook view of Breckenridge through my eyes. Once the snow melts, PART 2 of my adventure will resume.

 xoxoxo

stunning aspen alpenglow!

Alpenglow (from GermanAlpenglühen) is an optical phenomenon. When the Sun is just below the horizon, a horizontal red glowing band can sometimes be observed on the opposite horizon. Alpenglow is easiest to observe when mountains are illuminated but can also be observed when the sky is illuminated through backscattering.

Since the Sun is below the horizon, there is no direct path for the light to reach the mountain. Instead, light reflects off airbornesnowwater, or ice particles low in the atmosphere. It is this circumstance that separates a normal sunrise or sunset from alpenglow.

Although the term may be loosely applied to any sunrise or sunset light seen on the mountains, true alpenglow is not direct sunlight and is only observed after sunset or before sunrise.
