300 neurosurgeons + softball + charity = inspiring success!!

I'm a little backed up with with my blogging, but for good reason! Another successful charity event complete!! Columbia Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Fund Charity Softball Tournament (mouthful!!) CUPBTRF

With the threat of rain looming this past Saturday, emotions were running high. Sure we had a "plan B" but we've never had to use it so who knows how smoothly THAT would go! Thankfully we didn't have to find out! We could not have had a more perfect day! The rain Gods were listening!

This past Saturday, June 5, over 300 of the nation's top neurosurgeons (plus Toronto, Canada) flew into NYC to play in a charity softball tournament (in Central Park) to benefit pediatric brain tumor research. I feel like such a proud mama. This event started out as a little "grass roots" campaign born from an idea very late one evening 6 years ago. It has now grown to gain national recognition. We are even endorsed by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. Our tournament has been declared "Neurosurgery Charity Softball Tournament Day" in the City of New York. Next year, the American Board of Neurosurgeons will become part of our team. With their resources, there's no telling how far we'll go!

I would personally like to thank each and every neurosurgeon for being so selfless and inspiring. Their commitment and dedication to their careers goes far beyond the operating table. These guys (and gals) are true heros. They desperately seek more funding for research – but instead of belly aching about it, which you might expect, they put their money where their mouth is. They're taking action and raising awareness. They're doers. All money raised is put directly into a research fund so that the cure for pediatric tumors might someday be found. They're leading by example.

I would like to send a special thank you to our sponsors that make this event possible!

George Steinbrenner/NY Yankees
Poland Spring (for donating 1,500 bottles of water!)
Subway (for feeding us with over 1,200 sandwiches!)
BrainLab (for sponsoring an after party the doctor's will never forget)
Baxter
OmniGuide
and so on!!

A VERY special THANK YOU to doctors:
